Rioters on streets for second night

Rioters took to the streets of Bahrain for the second night running last night in protest against what they call "unclean tourism."

Youths wearing Palestinian scarves could be seen running wild, clashing with police and throwing rocks and stones.

Riot police armed with batons, shields and firing tear gas were again out in force but the disturbances which started at 8pm last night were still going on in the early hours today.

On Wednesday night hundreds of youth rioted in the same area in protest at a concert given by Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.

* Sixteen rioters, aged between 16 and 25, were arrested by the security forces on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, said the Information Ministry in a statement quoting an Interior Ministry source last night. They will remain in custody for seven days while their case is investigated by the General Prosecutor. Several citizens and tourists lodged complaints with the police, claiming rioters had attacked them and damaged their property.
